Present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution for protection of life and liberty of petitioners in view of their marriage solemnized against the wishes of respondent Nos.4 & 5.

(2) Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1 to 3 only.

(3) On asking of the Court, Mr. Kirat Singh Sidhu, DAG, Punjab, present in Court, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents. Requisite copies of the petition have already been supplied to the State of Punjab.

(4) It transpires that both the petitioners solemnized marriage on 08.06.2023 and documents in support of the same are appended i.e. Aadhar Cards and Marriage Certificate (P-1 to P-3, respectively).

(5) Admittedly, both are major; but apprehending threat to their life and liberty at the hands of respondent Nos.4 & 5.

(6) In view of the above, this petition is disposed off with the direction to respondent No.3-Station House Officer, Police Station Fatehgarh Churian, Police District Batala, District Gurdaspur to protect life and liberty of both petitioners as per law.

(7) However, it is made clear that disposal of present petition be not construed as an expression of opinion on the legality and validity of marriage in any manner.

(8) If any criminal case is pending against petitioner No.2, this order shall not be treated as any hindrance for the Investigating Officer to proceed in accordance with law.
