The petitioners have approached this Court, by way of filing the present petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, seeking protection of

their life and liberty on the premise that petitioner No. 2 has performed marriage with petitioner No. 1 against the wishes of her parents and other

family members and the petitioners are apprehending threat to their life and liberty at their instance.

Notice of motion.

On asking of the Court, Mr. Joginder Pal Ratra, DAG, Punjab, who is also appearing through video conferencing, accepts notice on behalf of the

respondents-State. Let a complete set of the paperbook be supplied to him during the course of the day on his official Email Id.

Learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that a representation dated 22.07.2021 (Annexure P-6) was made to the Senior Superintendent of

Police, Hoshiarpur seeking necessary protection but no action has been taken so far in the matter.

Without examining the question of validity or otherwise of marriage of the petitioners, the present petition stands disposed of with a direction to the

Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur to look into the grievance of the petitioners expressed in the representation (Annexure P-6) and take

appropriate action, if any, warranted in the circumstances.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Hoshiarpur is further directed to arrange a meeting of petitioner No. 2 with her father/mother in case any such

application is moved.

It is made clear that in case any FIR is registered against petitioner No. 1, it will be open for the police authorities to take action, in accordance with

law.
