Monica and Another vs State of Punjab and Others

Kanwaljit Singh Ahluwalia, J.—Petitioners-Monica and Mandeep Singh are present in the Court. Petitioner No. l-Monica has been identified by her counsel. She has stated that she has studied up to 7th class. She has further stated that she was born on 7.10.1990. It is further stated by the Petitioners that they have solemnized marriage according to their own volition against the wishes of their parents. The Petitioners seek protection to their life and pray that they may not be harmed by those who have not accepted their marriage.

Issue notice of motion to Respondents No. 1 to 3 only.

On asking of the Court, Mr. B.S. Sra, Additional Advocate General, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of Respondents No. 1 to 3. A copy of the petition has been supplied to him.

Respondent No. 2-Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, is directed to assess threat perception to the Petitioners and if required, ensure necessary vigil that no harm is caused to the life of the Petitioners.

With the observations made above, the present petition is disposed of. However, it is specifically observed that this Court has not determined the validity of marriage.

A copy of this order, duly attested by the Special Secretary of this Court, be furnished to Mr. B.S. Sra, Additional Advocate General, Punjab, for onward transmission and compliance.
