Judgment
Challenging the inaction of the respondents in considering and disposing of the petitioner's application dated 06.03.2025 for the grant of an Arms Licence, the present writ petition has been filed.
Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Assistant Government Pleader for Home, appearing for respondents 1 to 3.
The petitioner contends that he is a trained shooter and regularly participates in shooting competitions. For the purpose of possessing a firearm to participate in such competitions, he submitted an application for the grant of an Arms Licence. He has also placed on record a representation dated 06.07.2026 addressed to the 3rd respondent with regard to his application dated 06.03.2025 for an Arms Licence. It is submitted that the said representation has not been considered till date.
Though the learned Assistant Government Pleader for Home sought time to obtain instructions on two earlier occasions i.e. on 28.07.2026 and 29.07.2026 but as on today, no instructions have been forthcoming.
In the above circumstances, this Court deems it fit and proper to direct the 3rd respondent to consider the petitioner's representation expeditiously and pass appropriate orders thereon on or before 12.08.2026. The petitioner's application shall be considered in accordance with the provisions of the Arms Act, 1959.
Accordingly, this Writ Petition is disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
Miscellaneous applications, if any, pending shall stand closed.
