Judgment
Today, the petitioner is not being represented by a lawyer. Mr. K.K. Parasar, learned Central Government counsel, Mr. J. Payeng, learned standing
counsel, Foreigners Tribunal, Mr. A. Bhuyan, learned standing counsel, Election Commission of India and Ms. L. Devi, learned standing counsel,
NRC, are present.
This writ petition, however, is against the order dated 26.05.2017 passed by the Foreigners’ Tribunal, Jorhat, Assam in F.T. Case
No.SVR/193/2014 (Police Enquiry No.176/2014), by which the petitioner has been declared a foreigner and was in detention since 17.05.2019.
Today, however, the learned counsel appearing for the State Mr. J. Payeng has informed this Court that the petitioner had already been released from
the detention centre. This information he has received from none else but counsel for the petitioner Mr. Sanjay Sutradhar, who had informed him over
phone about this fact.
In view of this, the matter is adjourned.
Since LCR has already been received, list this case for final hearing on 2nd August, 2021.
