Petitioners Shivani and Sarbjit Singh have averred that they have married against wishes of respondents No.4 and 5, who are members of family of petitioner No.1. The petitioners have annexed copies of their Aadhar Cards indicating that they are aged 25 years and 27 years.

The petitioners apprehend threat to their life and liberty at the hands of respondents No.4 and 5 and thus seek issuance of appropriate directions.

At this stage Sh. Sandeep K. Katik, Advocate has put in appeared on behalf of respondent No.4 and has filed power of attorney. He has expressed that respondent No.4 i.e. father of petitioner No.1 is also present in person and wishes to have a word with his daughter i.e. petitioner No.1. In view of the aforesaid request, respondent No.4 was permitted to meet petitioner No.1 outside the Court for a brief while.

After a short while, when respondent No.4 and petitioner No.1 came back, respondent No.4 has assured that he shall not cause any harm to the petitioners in any manner. Respondent No.4 was accordingly advised not to cause any harm to the petitioners under any circumstances and that he may have recourse to legal remedies as may be available to him.

The petition is disposed of with a direction to Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurdaspur to look into the representation Annexure P-5 made by petitioners, in accordance with law, immediately upon receipt of certified copy of this order. In case any serious apprehension of threat to the life and liberty of the petitioners is found, requisite steps be taken immediately, in accordance with law, to protect life and liberty of the petitioners.

It is however clarified that the aforesaid order shall not be interpreted to mean any expression as regards validity of marriage of the petitioners. In case, it is found that any of the petitioner has committed any offence, needless to mention that they shall be liable for the consequences thereof.
